Re-Cap of Student Information Exchange Held on March 12th:
The committee discussed the feedback on the Student Information Exchange event held on 3/12 at P79M. The committee thanked Jennifer Woo & P79 for hosting the event and for the calm manner in which the events of the day with the nearby explosion were handled. It was reported that a few agency representatives were not able to get in the building that morning, no reports of families not able to make it were identified. Those that did attend found it informative and helpful. There was some discussion on whether the Student Information Exchange is worthwhile given the very limited number of families that attend. This year there were 6 family members who signed in & about 7 students. There were 2 additional agencies represented at the event who normally don’t attend the ongoing meetings. Some committee members felt that it may be more effective to carve out some of the time at our monthly meetings for the Networking/Information Exchange. We can also explore other ways to reach the families. A decision was not made at this meeting and we will bring it up for discussion at our early Fall meetings later this year.
Status of 2014 Graduates:
The school transition staff reported on the number of graduates they have and the status of where they are in the process of securing adult services. It is estimated that approximately 70 students will be seeking services through OPWDD. Of these, approximately 15 have placements identified. The remainder are all still in the process of having evaluations and OPWDD Eligibility Determinations completed. It was re-iterated again that all 2014 Graduates will need to go through the Front Door Process and the school staff continue to work with Evette Herdsman from Metro DDRO.
