AHRC, NYC:
Has Adult Day Hab, and Holiday Respite opportunities as well as Supported Employment Opporutnites. However, the Supported Employment referrals must be registered with Access VR
Association for Metro Area for Autisic Children:
Has 3-4 Day Hab opportunities as well as having an ABA Psychologist
Individuals must be diagnosed with Autism, Waiver Enrolled, and Transportation is provided to and from the Bronx
Contemporary Guidance Services:
Has school holiday respite opportunities
Individuals must reside in Manhattan and be between the ages of 14-21
Transportation is provide
Day Hab without Walls openings
Life Adjustment Center:
Has Day Hab opportunities in Crown Heights Brooklyn for those Diagnosed with Autism or Along the spectrum and are not work ready.
Has Day Hab opportunities in Northern Harlem for those that are low functioning
Focus for both programs is on Adaptive Daily Living Skills and Socialization Skills
Community Inclusion/Trips are provided
Transportation is provided to and from programs
Adrianna Bagnall – Columbia University
Adrianna is currently conducting research on the transition process for autistic adults who have completed the transition process out of high school. She is looking to interview families, Transitioning from High School into Adult Day Services/Employment.
A $15.00 gift certificate will be presented to those who participate. See attached flyer.
Manhattan Family and Professional Resource Fair:
Is December 18th at Hotel Penn; 9:30 – 2 – See attached brochure. Student groups must pre-register.
Front Door Process Update:
The Front Door Process has been revised and currently includes 7 steps from initial contact with the DDRO Front Door staff through enrollment into services. All students transitioning out of school will continue to need the Front Door. There will be some streamlining/expedited process for those students who employed and just seeking Supported Employment services. There is a much greater emphasis on collaboration with Medicaid Service Coordinators.
Guest Speaker at Today’s Meeting: Andrew Pfadt – AHRC, NYC’s Melissa Riggio Higher Education Program
This is a fully integrated college based program that is designed to prepare individuals with DD for adult life through a campus based experience. This program is currently operating on 3 campuses in the city – Kingsborough Community College, College of Staten Island and Hostos Community College. It is planned to begin at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) in Fall 2015.
This program is a Non-Matriculated, Certificate Based Program in which an individual is enrolled for 4 years. Three years are academic based and one year is based on alumni service focused on pre-vocational/employment. The program provides individualized academic, social, community & career exploration experiences. Students will be taking courses based on their interests and strengths as well as some Core courses required by all students. Each student participates in a variety of internships both on and off campus.
