Human Services Council report details threats to sustainability of non-profit agencies
In March of 2015, FEGS, one of the largest provider agencies serving OPWDD eligible persons and closed its doors and many essential services had to be transferred to other provider agencies, at great disruption to state and city agencies whose work FEGS carried out. Many FEGS programs and staff were transferred or consolidated other agencies, and new providers and even more to the people served by FEGS. The Human Services Council has prepared a report examining factors contributing to this fiscal collapse.
Many questions remain unanswered about the specifics of the FEGS closure, but this report details many broad concerns that threaten the viability of non-profit human service agencies that serve folks with Intellectual and Developmental Disability, Homelessness, Substance Abuse, Juvenile Justice, and other essential public services.
