Justice demands fairness….

The Justice Center for the Protection of People With Special Needs was launched in 2013 to tackle a daunting task: assuring that New York’s most vulnerable citizens are properly cared for and protected from abuse and neglect.
Now there’s concern that the center’s very operation may be contributing to the problem.
The Justice Center was Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s response to a mess he inherited when he took office – a backlog of documented cases of neglect or abuse at state facilities or institutions regulated by the state that care for disabled, addicted, mentally ill and troubled young people. Oversight of those facilities was spread among multiple state agencies, resulting in lapses in monitoring, cases slipping through the cracks, and inconsistent follow-through.
