Announcing Upcoming Videoconference on The Council on Quality and Leadership’s Personal Outcome Measures – Monday, March 4, 2013

On Monday March 4, OPWDD will hold a statewide videoconference to provide an overview of The Council on Quality and Leadership’s (CQL) Personal Outcome Measures (POMs). POMs, a set of 21 measures which identify outcomes that are most important to people with developmental disabilities, are a key element in how OPWDD will examine the quality of supports for those it serves under the People First Waiver. The videoconference, which will run from 9am to 11am, will feature presentations from OPWDD staff familiar with POMs, followed by a question and answer period in which participants at each videoconference site can pose questions to the panelists.

Through design teams and workgroups associated with the People First Waiver, OPWDD has explored the best practices for measuring the outcomes that are most important to people with developmental disabilities. CQL’s POMs method has stood out for its effectiveness in measuring someone’s quality of life and the support areas in which improvements may be needed. For more than 40 years CQL has worked with human service organizations and systems to measure and improve people’s quality of life. Numerous provider agencies in New York are using POMs, and OPWDD is embracing CQL’s POMs as a valid and reliable way to look at individual outcomes. In the months ahead, OPWDD will design ways to incorporate the POMs into the quality oversight of care coordination within the new managed care infrastructure taking shape for the developmental disabilities service system.

Registration is limited, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for registration is Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 5pm. To sign up to participate in this workshop, please e-mail the People First Waiver liaison in your area.
