Announcing Upcoming Innovative Ideas Workshop – Tuesday, December 4, 2012
On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, OPWDD will hold the fourth in a series of workshops showcasing innovative ideas collaborating groups of nonprofit agencies are developing, as they look for ways to support people with developmental disabilities under the People First Waiver. This Innovative Ideas workshop will be held via statewide videoconference from 9:30 am until noon, and will be followed by a brief discussion period at each videoconference site in which participants will offer feedback to OPWDD.
Two groups are scheduled to present at this workshop: Hillside Family of Agencies will present information on “Family Finding,” a new national model that it hopes to use to transform how agency staff finds and engages natural supports for individuals in the OPWDD service delivery system. “Family Finding” consists of a six step process intended to find information about an individual’s family, and subsequently build a lifetime network of support of family and non-related adults who care for the individual. The second group, NYSARC, will offer insight into the creation of its statewide coordinated care program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Currently, NYSARC is in the process of developing a statewide Developmental Disabilities Individual Support and Care Coordination Organization (DISCO) with an emphasis on a habilitative model of care, increased person centeredness and satisfaction, enhanced family-based natural supports, employment opportunities, uniform quality standards, and the reinvestment of any accrued savings into system improvement and increased capacity to meet unmet needs that will be rolled out on a regional basis as partners and networks are established.
Registration is limited, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for registration is Friday, November 30, 2012 at 5pm. To sign up to participate in this workshop, please e-mail the People First Waiver liaison in your area.
