2. Metro DDSO – Janet Davis announced that they have expanded Family Support Services. Family Reimbursement; there is additional family support dollars from GHO, QSAC & Lifespire; FEGS has been expanded to include Saturday Recreation; Psychologicals or Psychosocials are needed for Family Reimbursement.
SKIP of NY – no longer has case management available in Manhattan.
SpinaBifida – no longer offers Medicaid Service Coordination in Manhattan.

6. YAI Link– Michelle Lang informed us that there are openings in Manhattan Recreation / Tuesday –Friday; Saturday Day trips are open to anyone living in any borough. Also, on October 1, 2012, Marco Damiani will be presenting a workshop on Upcoming Changes in Funding and Program Design for People with Developmental Disabilities.

7. UCP/NYC – Eden Ruiz announced program openings in Housing Advocacy services in all boroughs and home assessments conducted by a physical therapist. See attachments for more information.
8. Margaret Puddington announced that IAC has organized a press conference honoring Direct Support Staff this Friday (9.14.12) at 11am, at City Hall and Legislators will be attending.

FAMILY SUPPORT PRIORITIES FOR THIS YEAR – DISCUSSION
OPWDD will be requesting for proposals from voluntary agencies for Family Support. Requests must meet localities priorities. The committee offered the following recommendations:
- Guardianship and future priorities (highest priority)
- End of summer camp for teens 13-21 and younger
- After school programs
- More recreation programs
- In home respite
- Sex education for persons served
- Grief and death counseling for consumers. It was recommended that counseling be offered or several trainings for staff on this critical topic
Please note: Non-Medicaid case management is being offered by LES; Harlem Dowling; Community Resources. There are vacancies in these programs so it is assumed that there is no additional need.
NOVEMBER 29, 2012 FAMILY AND PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE FAIR
The space has been secured with a signed contract at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle – same location as in past years. There was a modest increase in the space rental. With a new Family Support RFP, we should request additional funds for next year’s Fair.
Workshops are being finalized. Topics include:
- 1. Preparing for Change
- 2. DOE Reforms
- 3. Medicaid Managed Care, Disenrollment and Managed Care
- 4. Entitlements: Getting What You Need: Entitlements, Benefits, and Other Resources to Support Your Family; Learn how to obtain and maintain entitlements including Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, Social Security Benefits, Disabled Adult Child Benefits, and easy access to Family Support Services, Fl
- 5. Sexuality
- 6. Anger Management
- 7. Autism, Recent Research and the DSM V
- 8. Psychiatric Meds
We discussed some recommendations to improve the flyer to eliminate too much copy. There was a discussion regarding purchasing a bag for guests that would list the Manhattan DD Council’s website .
Jennifer Shaoul circulated the letter that goes to all Manhattan agencies requesting UPDATED information for the new Family Support Directory. (see attached letter). Agencies present took their directory sheets and volunteers took sheets to update and return to Jennifer Shaoul by October 22, 2012.
