Open Discussions
- At the Manhattan Legislative Breakfast on March 3, there was a presence of the BFair2DirectCare. It is a campaign to raise the pay of DSP’s. The bill passed and would require budgeting $45 million to raise DSP wages. Governor Cuomo asked for an increase to $55 million.
- Wendy explained the Medicaid Block Grants that were mentioned at the Legislative Breakfast. Medicaid is funded through federal and state funds. They are trying to cap off the amount given to each state based upon expenditure in the past. It will be cutting off people that get coverage or services, especially for those that need it the most.
MTA Reduced-Fare MetroCard for People with Disabilities

- Lester Daniels explained the process of completing the Application for MTA Reduced-Fare MetroCard for People with disabilities.
- You can apply for a Reduced-Fare MetroCard by mail or in person.
- The MetroCard lasts 2 years.
- The fare is $1.35.
- There are no income guidelines.
- A list of qualifying disabilities is on page 2 of the application.
- The application has to include a passport type photo.
- It should be done in a group of 5 to 10 people.
- The application has to be signed by an adult.
- Section 1 needs to be notarized except when applying in person with photo ID.
- The applicant cannot use the NYC ID.
- Section 2 needs to be completed by applicants with Medicare.
- Section 3 should be completed only by persons with SSI that have a serious mental illness. The Health Care provider should sign this section.
- Section 4A is to be completed by applicants not covered by section 2 or 3.
- Section 4B is completed if applicable.
- Section 5 is for applicants who are eligible under section 4A or 4B. It should be completed by a physician.
- Authorization to disclose health information on page 7 should be completed by the applicant. It gives permission for the physician to disclose information.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 2082 Lexington Avenue, 4th Floor. The presentation will be given by the Office of Emergency Management.
