On Sept 25th, the Family and Provider Information Committee had over 60 individuals in attendance who came to hear Linda Schellenberg and her presentation on Self-Direction, clearly a popular topic for all.
Linda detailed the process which included identifying a broker; developing a person centered plan utilizing essential lifestyle plan; developing the individual budget and discussing how the services become implemented. Co-presenting with Linda was an individual currently thriving under the services received via self-direction, Oscar. He, with the help of Linda, was able to describe his current living arrangement which consists of an apartment with two live in roommates as well as the many successful endeavors that he has been able to achieve with self-direction. Families, providers and school transition staff were able to ask many questions and present the challenges that still exist within self- directed services
