Please e-mail the Governor TODAY and urge him to sign 4 important bills!

These bills have been delivered to the Governor.

He has only a couple of days to take action!.

Please tell the Governor that New Yorkers with developmental disabilities and their families are counting on him to sign these bills into law!

Here are brief summaries of the bills:

S.6641-C/A.8846-C

The “Front Door Bill” improves and standardizes Front Door procedures and requires the collection of information on unmet need so the State can do responsible planning for services.

S/7400-B/A.9766-A

Ensures that providers of long term developmental disabilities services under managed care must be non-profits.

S.6659-A/A.8835-A

Creates a task force to aid in responsible planning to meet the unmet needs of New Yorkers with developmental disabilities and their families.

S.1109-D/A.8452

Requires the collection of detailed information on unmet needs across the State with annual reporting to the legislature and governor’s office.  Again, this bill will aid in creating a responsible plan for services for people for developmental disabilities.

Please write a letter to the Governor or use the sample letter provided below strongly urging him to sign these four bills into law: http://www.governor.ny.gov/contact/GovernorContactForm.php

SAMPLE LETTER

Governor Cuomo:

Four bills passed both houses and have been delivered to you for consideration:  S.6641-C/A.8846-C, S.7400-B/A.9766-A, S.6659-A/S/8853-A and S.1109-D/A.8452.

Each of these bills will assist New York State government in providing desperately needed services to New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities and each is sorely needed.

Signing these bills into law will improve Front Door practices, require the collection of information on unmet needs to enable responsible planning, and ensure that only non-profits with experience (with the exception of OPWDD) provide services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Governor Cuomo, we are counting on you to support the most vulnerable New Yorkers among us.  Please sign these bills.
