Guest Speaker – Presentation: How to Access OPWDD Certified Residential Options – Renee McCauley – Metro DDRO
OPWDD currently utilizes a centralized system to manage residential vacancies & requests for residential supports. When the need for residential services is identified, the person seeking service or their advocate need to be placed on the Residential Request List. This can be done through completing a DDP 4 or Needs identification Form or by the MSC completing a form. It is important to provide as much information as possible to facilitate the identification of the most appropriate residential support. Any special medical or behavioral needs should be identified and included. The MSC’s play a critical role in this process in making sure that the appropriate forms are completed and submitted. The DDDROs work with the residential providers to obtain any current or upcoming vacancies. As vacancies are reported, the DDRO staff will send to the agency referrals on file from the Residential Request List that may match the criteria. The prospective residential provider then screens the candidate and completes and returns a Screening Form notifying the DDRO whether this person’s needs can be met by the residence. OPWDD has a Priority Ranking system with the highest priority of 1 for urgent needs such as people currently in Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Residential Schools, Homeless or Death of a caregiver.
June 2016Graduates:
At this time the schools project approximately 90 Manhattan students expecting to graduate in June 2016 who will be transitioning into OPWDD Adult Services. The school staff reported that the vast majority have already been determined to meet OPWDD eligibility and over half have MSC in place. The school transition representatives are actively working with the Metro DDRO’s staff to coordinate & ensure the process is underway. All graduates need to go through the Front Door. About 15, need to complete the eligibility determination process, the remaining graduates have begun the Front Door process. The schools have been working with the DDRO to schedule Front Door sessions at some of the school sites.
