The Relatively Easy Stuff:

– Remember, there are things you don’t need to be in the DD system to get, e.g. Benefits Assistance, Other Types of Advocacy, Services Funded by Other Entities
May take a Little More Effort (Hybrid Funding).

Most Challenging Enrollment (waiver required):
- What’s a Waiver Anyway?
- What if the person doesn’t have Medicaid?
- Oh, and by the way…the system may look totally different in a few years
- You do not apply for “the waiver”, you apply for a “waiver service”.
- The Medicaid waiver is a funding stream.
- You cannot be in 2 waivers!
Examples of Waiver Services
- Generally funded through the Waiver:
– Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA’s)
– Day Habilitation
– Community Habilitation
– Consolidated Supports and Services (Self Determination)
– Family Ed & Training
- May be able to get via other funding sources:
– Supported Employment (SEMP)
– Prevoc Services
– In Home Respite
– Hourly and Free Standing Respite (Includes overnight respite and recreation)
- May obtain if you are already enrolled in waiver:
– Environmental MOD
– Assistive Technology/Adaptive Equipment
– Plan of Care Support Service (PCSS)
- And a few others!
