- • Christina Muccioli – Highlighted several articles of interest from the AHRC Advocacy Group, regarding the Department of Education’s (DOE) “Special Education Reform in NYC Public Schools” initiative, and their “Common Core Standards” plan. (See 3 Attachments)
- • Christina Muccioli & Joan Dwyer – Spoke about the field’s fight to reverse the proposed budget cuts for the Special Needs population. They provided the contact numbers for those wishing to contact their local-area legislative leaders. (See Attachment)
- • Jill Sakowitz – From the Manhattan Early Childhood Direction Center (ECDC), Jill provided a list of the 5 ECDC Borough locations, its services and contact numbers (See Attachment)
Featured Presentation:
• The Presenter was Dr. Fredric Daum, Chief MD for the division of Pediatric Gastroenterology for Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, Long Island. The Topic was:
“ALL ABOUT THE TOILET”
Dr. Daum explored successful toilet training methods for parents who still had problems with their Special Needs children “withholding”. Dr. Daum has been active in this specialty area for over 45 years, and has published related articles for over 25 of those years. (See attachment of the Presentation)
• 38 parents/service providers attended this free Presentation; Dr. Daum also presents this Seminar periodically, through the Winthrop University Hospital Community Center, for a fee.
