Letter of Intent
Letter of Intent went out from OPWDD in place of the RFS( Request For Services) for Adoult Day Services to individuals aging out of the education system
Work Programs
If individuals are receiving Access V-R services; and getting paid these individuals can’t also
receive OPWDD services. However, if an individual wants to work and needs OPWDD services
an individual can receive OPWDD work programs such as: Supportive Employment, E-Semp, etc.
It is important to understand that if an individual needs a work program with less support services
than OPWDD’s work programs Access V-R would be the best program.
Hawthorne In Home Behavior Program
Is in its 2nd year of providing in home ABA. In this type of program behavior management strategies
are provided to the family. A Functional Behavior Assessment is conducted and then a plan is written for
implementation.
The Hawthorne In Home Behavior Program does have openings but for Manhattan families only
Currently, 35 hours per year of ABA are provided in the home but eventually these hours will be
increasing to 46 hour but when this change occurs the number of family’s being served will be decreasing
This program is OPWDD Funded not through Medicaid and is for children between the ages of 3 and
18 years of age.
Lifespire/YAI
Has an intensive Behavioral Program for those who have significant behaviors. Significant behaviors means that one must show behaviors that propose a danger to themselves or others
These Behavioral Programs are a 2 part process: The first part, is an Assessment Phase in which an
Article 16 Clinic conducts a Psychological Functional Assessment of Behavior that provides information on the individual’s behavior so that that a behavior plan can be completed. The second part, is the implementation and training of the information in the behavior plan.
Lifespire and YAI only provide in home Behavior Programs but, IBR provides Behavioral Programs for Day Habs
Graduates:
PS 138 M
- 19 students will be going to some time of Day Program-no anticipated problems
- 2 students haven’t been placed; one just agreed to evaluations but the mother keeps canceling appt’s. The other student is not eligible for Medicaid
PS 751M
- All students have been placed
- No anticipated problems with the placements
PS 759M
- 17 students are confirmed in placements
- 2 students (their parents, actually) have refused placement
- 1 student is having Medicaid Issues that are being worked on (looks as if it will be successful)
- 17 students are in the process of being place; no apparent problems. However, some haven’t chosen
- and some are waiting evaluations (but agencies have expressed interest in them)
