Legislative Breakfast

Barnes & Noble Union Square

Guest Speaker – Alan Rosen, YAI Home Care Services
Mr. Rosen presented an overview of the YAI Home Care Services. Due to low attendance and the absence of the Transition Coordinators (who were absent due to a Department of Education Meeting) at today’s meeting, Mr. Rosen agreed to return for our March meeting and discuss in more detail the services his program can provide.
Please encourage families to attend this meeting to learn about the Home Care Services. This program can benefit all members of the family, not just those with developmental disabilities.
Student Information Exchange
Thank you to all who attended on January 19. We had an excellent turn-out of agencies and Department of Education representatives. We were also pleased that a number of parents and students attended this year. Agency representatives, please review the packets, contact interested students and their families, set up tours and get back to the Transition Coordinators as soon as you have an idea if it is a good match or not. Please inform the coordinators if it will not work out with your agency so they can assist families in seeking another placement.
Just a reminder, students can begin attending an adult service program before graduation in June as long as all required paperwork is completed.
At this point we do not plan another exchange, however, we will be reviewing the student referral process over the next two months and, if by April, there are students who have not yet selected an agency we may have a scaled down Exchange in the spring.
